Are home inspectors required to be licensed?

In the state of Tennessee, anyone offering home inspection services for compensation is required to not only be licensed through the state, but is also required to complete annual ongoing education requirements to stay current on emerging building techniques and methodologies. As part of the state licensing process, inspectors are required to complete 90 credit hours of pre-licensure courses and pass a national exam. You can view the complete list of requirements on Tennessee’s Department of Commerce & Insurance website.

I have completed all my home inspector education requirements through the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI®). InterNACHI® School is the only home inspector college accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET), a national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

You can verify my Tennessee Home Inspector license at Tenessee’s License Search and Verification page, using my license number (2454).
